Be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World

The "It's hard being a diamond in a rhinestone world" quote got me inspired to host a diamonds workshop in Monaco for Myth vs Reality Circle of Luxury Professionals in January.

Not just because of the literal diamond reference but for anyone out there trying to find themselves in the new fast-paced world that is luxury with its many changes, innovations, challenges and opportunities, let alone the networks.

Most when hearing the word diamonds will go, ah Tiffany & Co, Cartier, Harry Winston, Chopard or Graff (claimed to be the top five diamond brands in the world).

Ever wonder why that is? What makes a brand so well-known. What got them to that position? Does this mean smaller brands are less competent? What does the end-client actually seek when choosing where to buy from?

It is fascinating also when I organise my events, what psychology does if a well-known brand is mentioned to be attending or being the host. It is as if the professional brain has been just tilted to open the eyes if something well-know creeps up and inadvertently makes it then worthwhile to go to.

Like the diamonds masterclass Snow and I hosted. I met Snow when she worked for Graff Monaco. Doesn't mean that I do not trust her expertise less now that she has moved on. We all began somewhere. Don't judge the book by the cover, instead embrace new, embrace a different approach to network. Myth vs Reality Circle for Luxury professionals' aim is just that. Be open to what the journey allows.

Busting myths of luxury has for the circle been in its three months of existence an interesting journey so far. Eye-opening because the myths vs reality begins at the beginning when attendees sign up. They all want to say that they're there for the discussion but at the end, it all dribbles down to networking. And that is exactly what the circle is about!

Removing your job title and company can be daunting for some to be creative and come up what your actual job entails. It's the best ice breaker according to past attendees. Photo from Myth vs Reality 'Public Opinion and Media' event captured by Jino Agnelli at Ceto restaurant.

What you don't find in the format is large groups, boasting of role or for whom you work. You find professionals who come together in small committees to have a chance to rely on making meaningful connections through conversation and removing their corporate identity to face each other as humans.

You find the movers and shakers who have something to say, and who is open to candid conversations. Professionals who are willing to give and take for the better of describing it. Learning, sharing experiences, connecting and creating long-lasting relationships.

Building relationships and sharing experiences while yourself being immersed in an experiential manner can only foster positive outcomes as here at Maybourne Riviera captured by Jino Agnelli.

Some come for the experience, others for the whole reason Myth vs Reality Circle of Luxury Professionals came to be. Whatever it is though, there is one common footing and that is that we each have a journey we have come on and we each shine bright as a diamond regardless of calling, position, company or professional career span. We each have our opinion, our experience, our fortes.

Like they say in folklore, diamonds can prevent fear and anxiety. Legend has it that diamonds can promote creativity and imagination in those who wear them. People have felt the gems could open their minds to impossible ideas being possible.

Compare the circle with wearing diamonds. People's creativity and imagination in the same way gets enhanced when coming together at the events, be it on-site, online or hybrid. People actually get the shine with the discussions, everyone's voice is heard and shared.

It is by coming together that we ourselves can better ourselves professionally and also personally. Ethically and how we then can provide value in what we do and how we provide it out to our end clients, often UHNWIs.

So on the theme of diamonds and high jewellery, let's see what you think of these common myths shall we and maybe the attendees from what we together with Snow at Maison Vitale 1913 Monte-Carlo for 'the secrets of diamonds and high jewellery' hands-on masterclass will be able to comment themselves on what they learnt.
